How this works: Religious formation and emblems are led by the family and parish/diocese. Scouting America is nonsectarian; our Pack supports families’ faith journeys and recognizes emblems earned through their faith organizations.
A Catholic Scout seeks to follow Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church, growing in prayer, service, and virtue. Within Scouting, youth can deepen their faith by pursuing religious emblems through their parish/diocese and by living the Scout Oath and Law with a Catholic understanding of duty to God and love of neighbor.
• Faith growth: Study, prayer, and parish life help build a solid spiritual foundation.
• Virtue in action: Service, leadership, and teamwork put Gospel values into daily practice.
• Family & parish partnership: Parents and parish leaders guide; the Pack celebrates and recognizes.
As a ministry of St. Joseph Parish, Pack 2 attends worship in field uniform (sometimes called “Class A”) and supports the parish’s liturgy as greeters and gift bearers.
• When: Usually the first Sunday monthly at the 9:00 AM Mass (verify via parish bulletin and Pack communications).
• Who: September–May, all dens serve with support from Troop 2; summer months feature a mixed representation from Pack and Troop.
• Uniform: Field Uniform (sometimes called “Class A”).
Terminology note: Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) is nonsectarian and supports each family’s faith practice. Units may also see observances like Scout Sabbath and Scout Jumuah during Scouting Anniversary week.
Scouting America marks its founding on February 8, 1910. Many faith communities observe Scout Sunday on the Sunday preceding February 8 to recognize the contributions of youth and adults in Scouting. (Local parishes may choose a nearby date.)
• Pack 2 tradition: Attend Mass at St. Joseph Parish in field uniform (sometimes called “Class A”) uniform; Scouts and leaders who have completed a first religious emblem may be recognized with the Religious Emblem Knot.
• Service: We coordinate a parish service project as close to February 8 as possible.
